Abstract: Shapeshifting is an enduring concept that transcends time and culture, present in folklore and modern fiction alike. This article explores how four Black undergraduates navigate distinct educational spaces as they grapple with identity, belonging, and resilience. From Historically Black Colleges and Universities to minority-serving and historically white institutions, these students share candid stories of their struggles and triumphs. They reveal what it means to adapt, grow, and remain centered in who they are — even when surrounded by unfamiliar spaces — and highlight the vital role that community and self-worth play in forging their paths.
